Lyrics
All Is Well – a phrase I was often heard saying
All Is Well – wher’er in the world I was staying
I saw so many places and always came back home to you
So now let me share a few….
I started, of course, in the Royal Air Force and in Halton initially posted
Wending my way over Wendover way and with many a talent I boasted
And then Scampton, Hong Kong, and the Falklands – upon the Atlantic Converyor did I ship
But they sank all the choppers and I came a cropper which soon brought an end to that trip
Where’er I was posted, it’s Scampton that hosted me everytime I would come back
To Lincoln, my city, a place that’s so pretty, I brought you and never looked back
There was Malaya, so grand, and then Northern Ireland and then Cyprus and Malta aswell
But whether home or away, you’d hear me say ‘All Is Well’.
All Is Well – a phrase I was often heard saying
All Is Well – in whichever aircraft I was flying
In so many different kinds around the world I flew
So now let me share a few…
On Blue Steel Missiles I did many air miles and I fuelled them with Kerosene
Then on to the choppers, where no foe could stop us, in Whirlwinds and Wessex’ seen
In Kai Tak I flew a Spitfire, so few, then to Scampton returning once more
And on Vulcans I spent almost eight years then went on to something I’d not done before
On to Church Fenton I went and then went on to work on the Jet Provost plane
I finished my time on the Chipmunk flight line and in Swinderby Chief Tech became
On Rotors or Fixed, in 1986 after 23 years bid farewell
To the Royal Air Force but still saying of course ‘All Is Well’.
All Is Well – a phrase I was often heard saying
All Is Well – whatever instrument I was playing
I winged it on plenty a love of music shared with you
So now let me share a few…
I played nothing before til I walked through the door there in Halton the bugle did start on
Then soon got on loan a nice shiny trombone and then singing, likewise, set my heart on
Somewhere on the way I somehow learned to play the piano and did it by ear
And with Scots Country Dancing I could be seen prancing in this style for many a year
And still further yet I could play clarinet, saxophone and accordion too
But the thing that I loved more than all the above was to sing G&S songs with you
Us Patersons singing the Patter Songs bringing a smile to our guests every one
Well I sang the tenor and you played piano together right where we belonged.
From Ton Three to Swinderby, RAF tech from beginning right up to the end
After The Royal Air Force, well I took a new course and exhausts round the world I did vend
But whatever the weather, music kept us together
All is well greetings, each other we’d send
So to you , my dear wife I would tell
This story of our life, you know well
Through worries and cares, just remember we’re bears
As you still hear me say “All is well”
