Lyrics
I loved to Jive,
I loved to swing.
The Gay Gordons was my thing.
In my day dreams you take my hand,
and we twirl around again.
I was born in 55 on the banks of the Rhine,
Father was a Major in the British army at the time.
He became attached to the 48th,
and we headed for Hong Kong,
Where Big Jan met little Jan and we were friends before too long.
I still remember the snake while on holiday in Sekong
but it wasn’t too long before we were moving on,
back to Germany we went,
so many holidays I recall,
Rome, Croatia, Krakow, we did them all.
I loved to Jive,
I loved to swing.
The Gay Gordons was my thing.
In my day dreams you take my hand,
and we twirl around again.
We moved back to Blighty in 1967,
Spent three years in Brampton just outside of Huntingdon.
Cromwell and John Major are among it’s famous sons,
I did not then know how important the church would become.
Off we went to Cyprus in 1970,
My father was stationed with the BFC.
I met a man named Harry,
he had a radio in his hand,
We were married in that church in Brampton,
back in our home land.
I loved to Jive,
I loved to swing.
The Gay Gordons was my thing.
In my day dreams you take my hand,
and we twirl around again.
When Harry left the army we heading for the Tyne,
and my gorgeous first born Sarah arrived around that time.
Now we had a family we all had smiling faces,
We were always Gannin’ along The Scotswood road made famous by the races.
We headed down to Yorkshire in the 1980’s
I worked in Fleet admin for the West Yorkshire Police
My Son Peter arrived and completed the set,
all those holidays in our caravan,
the family won’t forget.
I loved to Jive,
I loved to swing.
The Gay Gordons was my thing.
In my day dreams you take my hand,
and we twirl around again.
Mum and dad created the rock on which we stand.
With sister Maureen and brother Dave I’ve moved from land to land.
My children Sarah and Peter,
teamed up with James and Pye,
and now we have little Hudson,
he’s the apple of my eye.
I loved to Jive,
I loved to swing.
The Gay Gordons was my thing.
In my day dreams you take my hand,
and we twirl around again.
